Originally established in 1988, the Leadership Program at the Michael F. Price College of Business was designed to provide leadership experiences for academically talented undergraduate business students.

The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation initially provided major financial support for the creation and development of the Leadership Program. In 1993, thanks to the generosity of the JCPenney Company and the leadership and vision of then JCPenney CEO, W.R. Howell - a 1958 graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Business - the JCPenney Company endowed the Leadership Program and it thus became the JCPenney Leadership Program.

Today, the program continues to fulfill its original purpose of offering students multiple learning experiences designed to bridge the gap between their academic and professional lives.
