On Feb. 27, president and COO of ConocoPhillips John Carrig visited campus as part of the Price College Distinguished Speaker Series to speak about Global Energy Solutions: A New World Economy to an audience of more than 250 students, alumni and faculty in Meacham Auditorium at Oklahoma Memorial Union.

Carrig spoke about the many challenges facing the company and the energy environment on a global scale. Alternate energy sources and research were discussed, along with the rising average age of employees, energy security measures and the growing demand for energy. After his presentation, Carrig took many questions from the audience and from the media.

Carrig has spent a number of years with ConocoPhillips and has served in several financial-related capacities. He served as executive vice president, finance, and chief financial officer from 2002 to 2008; as senior vice president and chief financial officer in 2001; on the company's management committee as senior vice president and treasurer in 2000; and as vice president and treasurer from 1996 to 2000. Carrig also served as treasurer in 1995 and assistant treasurer in 1994.

He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Rutgers University in 1974 with a bachelor of arts degree and received his law degree from Temple University. Carrig attended the New York University School of Law as well, earning an advanced degree in tax law in 1978.

The Price College of Business Distinguished Speaker Series presents top-level business executives from a broad range of backgrounds, industries and geographies. Designed to promote face-to-face interaction between global leaders, the Oklahoma business community and Price College students, the Distinguished Speaker Series focuses on guests from the chairman and CEO levels of leadership. Previous speakers in the series include Michael F. Price, managing partner of MFP Investments and Price College namesake; Randall L. Stephenson, chairman and CEO of AT&T; and Archie W. Dunham, former chairman of ConocoPhillips.
